Once the little ones were seated on the floor of the Sunday School classroom, I asked the first question in the book.
"Who can tell me what prayer is?"
"I know, I know," piped up one cherubic three-year-old, "It's when you close your eyes."
"We usually do close our eyes when we pray, but actually, praying is when we talk to God."
"You can talk to GOD?!" he asked, his eyes huge with amazement.
That little exchange had a more profound impact on my prayer life than countless talks and books on the subject. Too often people think of prayer as an obligation rather than the awesome privilege it is. How honored we would feel to get to talk to a leader of a nation even for a minute. Shouldn't we feel even more blessed to get the chance to talk to the Creator of the Universe?
Whenever I read this verse, I picture a father bending down to listen to the whispered words of his child.
